Fasten your seatbelts! Return Flight is preparing to land.
Bound this year for Hong Kong, Return Flight MEL>HKG is the final leg in an ambitious, three-year international project pairing artists and writers from around the globe. This year, we prompted ten artists from Melbourne and Hong Kong to create unique works responding to the theme ‘away’. Ten writers from the opposite city responded. Then we introduced them to each other.
The result is a publication and exhibition full of cross-disciplinary, multilingual works that reflect on identity, place, displacement and belonging. You’ll also find transcripts of artist-writer interviews that give a peek into the collaborative process.
Curated by Elizaveta Maltseva, edited by Magenta Sheridan and Renata Carli and designed by Jacqui Hagen, Return Flight MEL>HKG celebrates wild new writing, art and interviews from the likes of Eleanor Jackson, Rona Green, Joel Ma, Saskia Doherty and Michael Peck.
Join us as Return Flight touches down for the final time. We’ll be landing in Melbourne on Friday August 9, 6–9 p.m. at The Blender Studios, and in Hong Kong on Saturday September 14, 5–9 p.m. at Floating Projects.
Get your hands on a drink and a copy of our shiny new book, see the artworks on display, and meet the contributors (and cabin crew) who’ve made this journey possible.
If you’re an organised traveller, you can pre-order your copy of Return Flight MEL>HKG here. Can’t wait? Take a trip across the world – or just across the Tasman – with previous editions MEL>EDI and MEL>CHC.
