Going Down Swinging was in Newcastle at the beginning of the month doing some recordings for the National Young Writers’ Festival Press Room.
Because we like sharing, we thought we’d make the best of these available to our online readers.
Adolfo Aranjuez (Award Winning Australian Writing; Metro; Voiceworks) hosted this unmissable NYWF panel to a barrage of thirsty questioning from young writers bewildered by promises of ‘exposure’, unpaid internships and unpaid invoices. For anyone writing in the digital age, the issue of money – or lack of – is at once a joke, a major crisis, and a serious nail-biter. The panel tapped into the wisdom of four women who’ve heard it all: freelance writer and critic Bethanie Blanchard; editor and writer Erin Handley; Melbourne Writers Festival director Lisa Dempster; and Lifted Brow digital editor and freelancer Elmo Keep.
