Entry includes a free Going Down Swinging back issue and there’ll be cheap drinks on hand. We’ll also hold a raffle on the night with a sweet prize up for grabs (no, it’s not a meat tray).
In Full Swing comes to you as part of the inaugural Melbourne Spoken Word & Poetry Festival. You can pre-purchase tickets here or pick some up at the door at Rokeby Studios. The Artists
Geoff Lemon is a writer, performer, editor and radio broadcaster. He’s a regular guest on ABC Radio, video presenter for The Roar, runs the political satire website Heathen Scripture and is a former editor at Going Down Swinging. His own creative work includes the poetry collection Sunblind (2008), collaborative novel Willow Pattern (2012) and essay collection The Sturgeon General Recommends (2013).
Fury is a despicable changeling creature birthed from the sulphur swamps of greater New Zealand, currently inhabiting the desolate desert landscapes of Melbourne’s CBD. You can tell them by their webbed fingers and shifting red eyes. To ward them off, you may leave an inverted coat or open iron scissors where you sleep. It is not advised to read their guileful poetry as their words encourage restless sleep.
Andy Jackson has featured at literary events and arts festivals in Australia, India, USA and Ireland – including the Castlemaine State Festival and the Queensland Poetry Festival – and his poems have been included in five of the last six annual Best Australian Poetry anthologies. His most recent collection, Music our bodies can’t hold (Hunter Publishers 2017), consists of portrait poems of other people with Marfan Syndrome. He lives in Castlemaine.
Soreti Kadir, also known as Hawiine, is a female, Oromo, multidisciplinary creative whose expression includes performance poetry, writing, music and entrepreneurship. Her work draws on her experience, contributing to collective conversations on freedom, equity, womanhood, injustice and progress. Soreti’s artistic and leadership journey has seen her speak, perform, collaborate and lead in a variety of contexts, from the international aid and development industries, grassroots community events, festivals, conferences, panels and numerous poetry features.
