In the editorial for issue five, Kevin and Myron state that not only was Going Down Swinging a record of contemporary writing in Australia, they also hoped it would become part of the context for that writing, and thus included in issue five are responses to works previously published in the journal, as well as letters between contributors.
The layers of review and dialogue act as a clear archival source for the Australian literary climate of the time.
